Vitiations (2011)

Recorded March 30, 2011.
This documentation serves to demonstrate the interaction possible with the first version of this system exhibited February 24 – March 20, 2011 as part of the RISD Faculty Biennial.

In this work I explore co-channel radio interference and the interpretation of the resulting impaired audio signals via a computer program that aims to clean and decipher this stream.

The central gray box is a custom-made radio jammer. The gray boxes on either side are modified radio receivers, off-tuned. The audio stream is processed by a computer running a program realized with Pure Data. In a gallery setting, the audience may interact with the piece, listening with headphones.
