I’ve composed a 20-channel sound work for Bo Christian Larsson’s The Emperor’s New Thoughts which will be on view May 18 – June 10, 2012 at Ludlow 38 in New York.

There will be an opening and happening on Thursday, May 17, 6:00 – 9:00pm with the happening at 7:00pm (in which I’ll be performing sound; sound also remains in the gallery during the length of the exhibition).

Greenlee will perform his work Impellent which incorporates his developments of graphic waveshaping and graphic actuation. In this piece, image data gathered from live cameras is interpreted as sound. Color, luminance, and pattern are used as parameters and functions within feedback-dependent, synthesis processes.

“Encountering Data” is presented by the Consortium for Digital Art, Culture, and Technology. Positioning the event, cDACT states, “Data is one of the central problems of our era—we have more of it than can parse, and the question then becomes how we sort, categorize, and otherwise make it legible for interpretation and analysis. Much of this data still exists only as strings of numbers read by machines and then by humans, but in recent years researchers have begun to harness the power of visualization and sonification, as well as the potential for tactile interaction. The ability to perceive data in multiple formats – image, sound, touch – adds immeasurably to the possibilities of understanding and inspecting the massive sets of data that researchers in all disciplines are constantly accumulating. Thus, addressing the problem of data demands that conversations take place across a wide range of disciplines: computer science, art, physics, music, and mathematics, among others.”

Decoct (2012)

Decoct is a retuned/revised 2012 rendition of an additive synthesis sonification study started in 2009. The grayscale video modifies the tuning and amplitude of many oscillators producing a subtlety changing drone. Decoct was on view at Stony Brook University as part of the Encountering Data exhibition running January 24 thru February 17, 2012.
